Spoiler Alert: The Real Reason Cami Ransacked Monty’s Office on Landman Season 2!

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Landman season 2, episode 2.Cami Miller (Demi Moore) went rifling through Monty’s (Jon Hamm) old office in Landman season 2, episode 2, but it wasn’t entirely clear what she was looking for. Since Monty’s death at the end of Landman season 1, Cami has been reeling. She’s now a widow, the newly minted majority owner of M-Tex, and she’s being sued to complete reconstruction of an offshore natural gas rig she didn’t even know about.

With all the problems Cami is facing, it was a bit surprising that she decided to go to Monty’s old office and search through his desk in Landman season 2, episode 2. After all, she could have used that time to learn more about the oil industry or start the reconstruction process for the offshore gas rig. Landman also didn’t reveal exactly what Cami was even looking for, but we still have a good idea thanks to context clues.

What Cami Is Looking For In Monty’s Office In Landman Season 2 Episode 2

In Landman season 2, episode 2, Cami went to Monty’s office and started going through both his physical and digital files, clearly looking for something. While we don’t know exactly what she’s going to find there, it’s safe to assume that Cami was looking for information on Monty’s shady and secretive business deals. If Monty had documentation about the rig or anything else that Tommy and M-Tex’s lawyers didn’t know about, it’d be in his office.

Since Cami is now the principal owner of M-Tex, any of Monty’s ongoing business deals are going to be very important for her to know about. She can’t get blindsided by another big crisis like the offshore natural gas rig again. She’s searching his office because she needs to know where the company is vulnerable, what problems she should be preparing for, and how much trouble Monty got M-Tex into.

There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Monty’s shady business dealings in Landman season 2, which Cami is trying to get to the bottom of, but we do know a bit about what he was involved in. Monty was able to secure a very irregular payout on the insurance claim on his offshore gas rig. He got the insurance company to send the entire payout directly to him instead of in parts as repairs went on to M-Tex as a company.

While that isn’t technically illegal, it’s still a questionable business tactic. Monty also committed some very real crimes: misappropriation of funds and breach of contract. He was supposed to use the insurance payout to rebuild his offshore rig, but instead, he used it to buy land in West Texas for more oil rigs. Monty has been described as a gambler, and he tried to use the $420 million payout as capital on risky new oil rigs to make even more money before repairing the offshore rig.

This offshore gas rig deal is also just the tip of the iceberg for Monty. The fact that he was able to completely hide the existence of a $420 million oil rig from his vice president, wife, all his lawyers, and his investors, means Monty could have hidden literally anything from them. There’s no telling what kind of quasi-legal and shady deals Cami is going to find in Monty’s office in Landman season 2.
