As the podcast continued, David himself couldn’t help but talk about his own loss. The podcast is hosted by Kati Charlene, his daughter, and the conversation turned a little personal after a while. He got teary-eyed as soon as he recalled Kati’s wedding and the pain she felt because her biological mother was not present. David shared that his former wife died by suicide, a loss that still weighs heavily on him.
During the wedding, David told Kati he would wear a dress and step in as her mother if that would make her feel better. Kati also got emotional and said she believed him. She knew David would have done it without even thinking about it. Even years later, David admitted he still feels guilt and wishes he could have saved his former partner for his children. David also recalled a family trip to SeaWorld.
It was there that he remembered an incident involving their young son that had caused some problems. At the time, he failed to understand his wife’s fear and anger. Looking back, he now recognizes her pain and struggles, which then led to her taking a drastic decision.
