Why Michelle Randolph and Jacob Lofland Can’t Stay Enemies When Cameras Stop Rolling

Any Landman fan knows that, for some reason, siblings Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) despise each other. Whenever they are in the same room, all they do is bicker, yell and insult one another—and we have no idea why. As it turns out, neither do the actors! According to Randolph, she and Lofland have asked Taylor Sheridan multiple times why their characters don’t get along, and the answer she gave will surprise you! Read on to discover what it is.

The surprising truth about Michelle Randolph and Jacob Lofland’s off-screen relationship

Despite their rocky on-screen relationship, Lofland, age 29, says that he and Randolph, age 28, get along really well off-screen. “When me and Michelle get to work together, we’re always fighting. It’s always an argument, but it’s so funny because our dynamics off the set are not like that. We are like brother and sister off set, and we get along tremendously. So it’s like we’re really having to act like we don’t like each other on screen, and as soon as we cut it’s always, like, ‘I’m sorry,’” the actor said last year, per Whiskey Riff. “We have a great time. Those scenes are always fun.” Randolph echoed similar thoughts, telling Today show hosts Dylan Dreyer, Al Roker and Craig Melvin earlier this month, “It’s really hard to hate each other, cause he’s one of my great friends.”

Why the ‘Landman’ stars keep calling Taylor Sheridan

Since Ainsley and Cooper hate each other and the actors don’t know why, Randolph says that they’ve “both called [creator] Taylor [Sheridan] and been, like, ‘Can you give us something to work off of?’”  The actress didn’t say how Sheridan responded, but she did note that she thinks the tension comes from the two siblings being “mirrors for one another.”  “They each stand for everything the other person opposes,” the actress continued. “So it’s fun. I don’t have that dynamic in my real life, so I get all my anger out at Cooper.”

What’s next for Cooper and Ainsley in ‘Landman’ Season 3?

To no one’s surprise, both Cooper and Ainsley will be returning for Landman Season 3. While on the Today show, Randolph gave viewers a little glimpse of what to expect from her character, saying, “She’s definitely going to college [at Texas Christian University, or TCU].”

“I’m excited to see who she is outside of her family dynamic,” the actress continued. “I’m excited for her to be around her peers and be off on her own.”

As for Lofland, his character Cooper, to no one’s surprise, will be returning to the oil fields alongside his father, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton), and grandfather, Thomas or T.L. (Sam Elliott). They will be working at their new business, CTT (Cooper, Tommy and Thomas) Oil Exploration and Cattle, which was founded after Tommy got fired from his last oil job.

“Hopefully we possibly get back to the oil and do some stuff like that next season. Just really in the patch and working,” he teased to Us Weekly earlier this year. “Taylor [Sheridan] always surprises us, so I try not to have too many ideas in my head. I trust the process, but I’m just looking forward to getting the scripts and seeing where we all go together.” “There’s so many directions we could go in Season 3 that I’m really not sure. There’s going to be roadblocks and bumps throughout it, because nothing can be perfect. There’s a lot up in the air that we’re waiting to find out,” he continued.
