Josh Duggar Makes New Bid For Freedom With R. Kelly’s Lawyer

Josh Duggar starred alongside his expansive family on TLC‘s 19 Kids & Counting. The show was canceled in 2015 after he admitted to molesting several young girls years earlier. The family allegedly covered up the incidents and sent their son away for a while.
Even more serious allegations came out in 2021 when he was arrested for possessing child pornography material. He’s halfway through his sentence but wants out now. He recently hired a pricey new lawyer who represented R. Kelly. Keep reading for more on his possible early release.
Josh Duggar Has Six Years Left In Child P*rn Sentence
Josh Duggar has long denied the accusations that he had child pornography material on his computer. However, he was convicted in December 2021, just months after his arrest. The former reality star was sentenced to 151 months in prison.

He was sent to Federal Correctional Institution Seagoville, a low-security federal prison in Seagoville, Texas, after his sentencing. Despite the strong evidence, Josh Duggar maintains his innocence and wants out of jail ASAP. Now, he has a new lawyer who could possibly make that happen.
Disgraced TLC Alum Makes New Bid For Freedom
Josh Duggar has appealed his conviction with little results. The Supreme Court declined to hear his case in 2024, letting the conviction stand. But he’s not giving up hope for an early release.
Despite previously claiming he was broke, the 19 Kids and Counting alum just hired an expensive lawyer. Ashley’s Reality Roundup reported that attorney Beau Brindley filed with the court that he’s working for Josh Duggar. The lawyer also filed a motion to appear Pro Hac Vice, which allows an attorney who isn’t licensed in the jurisdiction to appear in specific cases. Beau Brindley is licensed to practice law in Illinois, not Arkansas, where the hearings for Josh Duggar’s case takes place.

Josh Duggar was supposed to appear in court on Wednesday, March 4, about his July 2025 motion to vacate his conviction. The reality star claimed that his “constitutional rights” were violated during his 2021 trial. He claimed, among other things, that Bobye Holt shouldn’t have been able to testify regarding the earlier molestation of his younger sisters.
The motion was initially denied due to the court not receiving the paperwork in time. But Josh Duggar insisted that he sent it through the prison mail system. The hearing was to determine if he did or not. However, his new lawyer successfully requested to postpone the hearing to give him time to look over the case. A new hearing date hasn’t been set yet.
R. Kelly’s Lawyer Tried To Get Sentence Overturned
Beau Brindley is a high-profile attorney to the stars. He’s represented disgraced rapper R. Kelly for years. The singer was sent to prison on s*x trafficking and producing child pornography charges. His lawyer’s most recent attempt to get him out of prison failed. The attorney claimed that other inmates and the guards were trying to kill R. Kelly.
Whether he has better luck overturning Josh Duggar’s conviction remains to be seen. As of now, the former TLC star has a release date of 2032.
