Jana Duggar Reveals Stunning Kitchen Update in Nebraska Home Renovation

Reality TV personality Jana Duggar has cooked up an amazing kitchen transformation in her dated Nebraska fixer-upper. She revealed the fruits of her labor in a YouTube video in which she proudly showcases the progress she and husband Stephen Wissmann have made on the retro property.

The “Counting On” star and her spouse have been busy overhauling the $275,000 property, which will serve as their marital home—after Duggar moved out of her parents’ house in Arkansas to start her new life as a married woman.

The couple, who tied the knot in a lavish ceremony on Aug. 15, didn’t waste time revamping the outdated property into a cozy family home. Duggar has documented every aspect of the renovation on her YouTube channel.

Renovating the home marks something of a career pivot for Duggar, who spent much of her childhood in front of the cameras while starring in her family’s popular reality series “19 Kids and Counting,” as well as its many spinoffs.

The show documented the family’s life in Arkansas, helmed by parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. It was canceled in 2015, after seven years on the air, when eldest child Josh was accused of sexual assault and molestation of minors, including some of his sisters.

Work is in progress in the kitchen.

Making do for now

Duggar started the update by showing the temporary cook space she created on a table in the living room while they await their kitchen area to be completed.

Duggar panned the camera over a space with no counters or appliances, then showed how they’re making do with an electric griddle and coffee maker sharing space with painters tape and work tools.

With no kitchen sink, the couple use their bathroom sink to wash dishes. The open shelving next to the shower makes a handy drying rack.

“Works for now, but so ready to have a working kitchen again,” she said.

After polishing off three eggs and cheese, Duggar was ready to get to work. First, she touched up the cabinets with wood filler, a detail-oriented task she didn’t seem to mind.

“They say do what you love and you’ll never work again in your life,” she noted. “When I work on projects like this, I really feel like I’m in my element. All the work and effort feels extra rewarding this time because this is the home Stephen and I will live in together once we’re married.”

(Since the video was made, Duggar and Wissman have tied the knot.)

Wissmann then appeared in the video, prepping the kitchen cabinets to be painted.

Cabinet painting prep

Wissmann’s parents arrived to help tape up the cabinets, a time-consuming process that is worth it in the end, Duggar said.

Using a paint sprayer on the drawers and cabinets is “a little more messy,” she said. “In the long run, it does save time. And since you’re not brushing the paint on, I feel like it can result in a nicer, smoother finish.”

The next step was priming and sanding by Wissmann, so the cabinet fronts could be ready for a coat of light beige paint.

“I love it, it’s perfect,” Duggar said of the color.

“Putting in a whole new kitchen has definitely been a huge undertaking,” Duggar said. “Especially since we’ve been doing so much of the work ourselves, with the help of family and friends.

“But it’s just so rewarding to see this project coming together. I imagine it’ll be so much more meaningful to use the space in the years to come, remembering all the hard work and elbow grease we put into making this space what it is.”

The quartz counters are in and the kitchen is almost finished.

With the paint dry, the couple reconnected the hinges and put the shelves and drawers back in place.

The final touches were the appliances and then the marble-style quartz counters.

Finally, Duggar decided to get drawer pulls in a modern matte gold from Amazon, she noted. She got the idea for them at her sister Jessa‘s house.

While not completely done—the electrical and backsplash still need to be completed—it’s miles from where they started with this place.
