Sister Wives Star Celebrates, ‘Finally Free’
TLC viewers have watched the Brown family expand and then slowly break apart. Christine Brown Woolley was the first of the sister wives to leave the plural marriage with Kody Brown. Janelle Brown was next, followed, finally, by Meri Brown. Now the Sister Wives patriarch only has one wife left – Robyn Brown.
Janelle Brown opened up in a previous episode about her one last time to Kody Brown – their marriage. His marriages to Christine and Janelle were spiritual in nature. He legally divorced Meri years ago to formally wed Robyn. In that earlier episode, Janelle Brown revealed that she wanted a spiritual divorce after her former sister wife, Meri, got one.
It finally happens in the upcoming episode. PEOPLE magazine shared a sneak peek at the episode airing on Sunday, January 4. Janelle Brown finally seeks a spiritual divorce/release from the Apostolic United Brethren, which is based in Bluffdale, Utah.
“That was easy. I thought I was going to have to come back for a second meeting. I am free. I am free. I am free. I am free,” Janelle Brown exclaims in the clip after receiving her official release papers.
“So there was really kind of a shift in my energy, and I think maybe it must have really meant something deep down that I’m sort of not always paying attention to. So I’m glad I did this,” Janelle Brown said after realizing how much the spiritual divorce really meant to her.
“I felt like a weight had lifted off me. So, somewhere in the back of my mind, this must have been more important than I realized to have this done,” she added.
Janelle Brown Opens Up About Regrets
Janelle Brown previously said she didn’t know she needed a spiritual divorce until another wife got one. While her spiritual ties to Kody Brown are severed, they will always be connected through their children. The former couple share Logan, Madison, Hunter, Gabriel, Savanah, and their late son, Garrison.
“You know, look, I don’t regret anything in the last 30 years. I love the family that we have, and I would do it all again in order to get the family and the kids that we have. [It] just is sort of like that chapter has ended,” she said.

Sister Wives fans have been rooting for the wives to leave Kody Brown for years. They took to social media to share their reaction to Janelle’s spiritual divorce.
