‘Landman’ Season 2 Returns to Texas Following Surprise Behind-the-Scenes Shake-Up

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman is back in downtown Fort Worth this week—but don’t let the familiar location fool you. While the Paramount+ hit series is returning to some of its Season 1 haunts, a surprise production shift to Oklahoma earlier this summer has shaken things up in a big way behind the scenes.

Production resumes this week in the heart of Fort Worth from Tuesday through Thursday, with cameras rolling on several downtown blocks and a full schedule of road closures to prove it.

This marks the latest stop on a busy Texas shoot, with Landman already filming in Fort Worth this past April and May, including major set pieces at TCU and a funeral sequence in Jacksboro. But even as the crew returns to familiar ground, it’s clear Season 2 is heading into uncharted territory—literally and narratively.

What makes this week’s shoot particularly notable is that it comes just after Landman made a surprising detour out of Texas entirely. Yes, Sheridan’s oilfield drama has expanded north into Durant, Oklahoma—just 120 miles from Fort Worth—for Season 2.

What’s Going on in ‘Landman’ Season 2?

Even the actors don’t entirely know. In a recent Actors on Actors interview with Kathy BatesBilly Bob Thornton—who leads the series as oilman Tommy Norris—offered insight into Sheridan’s famously loose writing process.

“When Sheridan starts writing, he’s not necessarily sure where it’s going to go. He lets the characters and the story take him when he’s gonna write it.”

So far, Season 2 has already filmed on campus at TCU, shot multiple sequences downtown, and ventured into the Oklahoma casino world. That paints a picture of a sprawling, possibly more ambitious season that expands beyond oil rigs into politics, business, and potentially darker territory.

Season 1 of Landman starred Billy Bob ThorntonDemi MooreJon HammAli LarterPaulina ChávezJacob LoflandMichelle Randolph, and James Jordan, with special guest turns by Michael PeñaAndy Garcia, and even Jerry Jones. Season 2 has added Sam Elliott to the cast—because what’s a Taylor Sheridan drama without at least one grizzled cowboy philosopher? And with new locations come new faces, so expect some fresh characters from the Durant shoot to factor into the narrative as well.

Landman Season 2 is currently in production and expected to premiere in November 2025 on Paramount+. Until then, Season 1—based on Christian Wallace’s Boomtown podcast—is streaming in full.
