Sam Elliott Drops Bombshell Update for Landman Fans

Taylor Sheridan fans got a shock in late October when the news of his new deal with NBCUniversal came out, which would mean he would eventually leave Paramount. However, that won’t happen for a few years, and Landman has just received another exciting update.

The Sheridanverse kicked off with the Yellowstone franchise, but the filmmaker continued his portfolio with several other crime dramas. In November 2024, he released Landman, which was an instant hit. After getting a hopeful update from its co-creator, Landman Season 3 got a new encouraging comment from newcomer Sam Elliott, who teased that everyone is already looking forward to the show’s future when speaking to Variety.

Even though Season 3 hasn’t been confirmed yet, Elliott admitted, “I’m looking past Season 2 already. “We’re here talking about Season 2, but it’s all been done. I’m thinking about what’s to come, and I’m excited about what’s to come.”

He further hyped up the support the series has received so far, noting, “The audience is excited about what’s to come right now. I’m excited about what’s to come next season that we haven’t even done yet.”

The legendary actor highlighted, “Just having the opportunity to work with all of these cast members, it’s that and the fact that we’ve got this incredible crew — a lot of them are people I worked with before on 1883. Elliott noted he loved “going back to Texas and working,” and that the Landman set has “many positive elements” that make it a “joy to go to work.”

While Paramount+ has to renew Landman for Season 3 officially, it’s almost a certainty that it will happen. The show has been in the charts throughout the year, even though Season 1 ended in early January. Fans revisited the series, which returned to the charts ahead of Season 2, and made it extremely popular.

Ahead of the release, Season 2 features a 78% approval score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of the nine reviews, two of them were negative, coincidentally leading to the same score as Season 1.

In a recent interview, Landman co-creator and showrunner Christian Wallace responded to Sheridan’s future exit, and noted there is still “a lot of runway,” and that “there are so many ways that this can go, and the world is so vast and big.” He teased that the world is “full of stories, and so far we’re two seasons in, and we’ve barely skimmed the surface of what we can do and what we want to do.”

When promoting the show, Sam Elliott even teased that there is a filming start window for Landman Season 3. Speaking to ExtraTV, the actor shared that they might go back in April or May 2026. “I’m excited to see what unfolds in Season 3,” he shared. “I mean, we’re talking about Season 2, but that’s backstory for us at this point, and we’re all kind of looking toward April and May when we start shooting Season 3.”

Landman premieres on Paramount+ on Nov. 16 with new episodes every Sunday.
