Landman Finally Uses a Forgotten Character After 2 Seasons
Landman Season 2’s premiere made record-breaking history for the streamer, with Paramount+ reporting that the opening episode amassed over 9.2 million views in its first two days. Therefore, it’s promising to see Season 2 building out its story, giving the next installment of Landman more material to build on, beyond Tommy Norris (Thornton) and his family’s drama.
Who Is Charlie In Landman Season 2? Guy Burnet’s Landman Character Explained
The evolution of an existing Landman character begins with the introduction of a new one named Charlie, whom Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) meets on a flight on M-Tex’s private jet. The fresh character is played by Guy Burnet, a British actor who appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Counterpart with J.K. Simmons before his role in the oil drama.
Charlie is an M-Tex employee who works long days on the oil fields and enjoys a cocktail he makes of watermelon juice, vodka, and simple syrup. He carries it in a thermos and offers it to Rebecca as they sit next to each other on the flight, with Falcone eventually agreeing to share a drink after a rocky takeoff.
Rebecca goes back to Charlie’s apartment, where she wakes the next morning to her own shock and horror. His space is high-end and filled with holistic touches, which initially throw Rebecca, though she eventually leans into them. With tentative plans to meet again, it’s clear that Charlie could be a romantic interest for Rebecca, expanding her story.
Rebecca Falcone Lacks Character Development In Landman
So far, Wallace’s Landman character, Rebecca Falcone, has had little story development outside M-Tex’s legal battles. Audiences know Falcone is a fierce lawyer who can win virtually anything she takes on. However, viewers don’t know who Rebecca is beneath the surface, with only a few glimpses of her personality beyond her legal defenses in Landman Season 1.
However, a new connection for Rebecca gives Falcone more standing in Landman’s overall story outside of her service to Monty Miller’s (Jon Hamm) company. It’s just a starting point, with her story in “Dancing Rainbows,” doing little to expand the control freak trope that Rebecca has fallen into. Still, it could be a promising move toward real development.
While Yellowstone and Landman co-creator Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the scripts for the oil drama, could keep Rebecca relegated to the background, it makes more sense to expand her character, especially since she is pretty one-dimensional so far. More depth for Rebecca could fill out Landman’s emotional impact, so long as it doesn’t distract from the Norris story.
Can Rebecca and Charlie’s Romance Last In Landman Season 2?
Charlie and Rebecca clearly have chemistry in Landman Season 2, Episode 4. However, they are total opposites, casting doubt on their compatibility. Opposites often attract, and Landman seems to be leaning into that trope, with Rebecca reluctantly using Charlie’s aromatherapy pods in the shower, which help high-strung Rebecca relax, a much-needed change for M-Tex’s most valuable litigator.
In just 24 hours, Charlie had a significant impact on Rebecca’s emotional well-being. Falcone could realize that her new friend is what she’s been missing, or she could dismiss the relationship because of her scrutinizing, closed-off nature. It would be exciting to get another love story in Landman, one outside of Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and Angela’s (Ali Larter) established drama.
